Tap Workshop - Jason Samuels Smith In less than a decade, Jason Samuels Smith (performer, choreographer, director) has emerged as a multi-talented leader in the Art form of Tap. He won both an Emmy and American Choreography Award for “Outstanding Choreography” for the Opening number of the 2003 Jerry Lewis/MDA Telethon in a tribute to the late Gregory Hines. Mr. Samuels-Smith was also awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the City of Los Angeles for creating the First Annual Los Angeles Tap Festival in 2003; a Proclamation declaring April 23rd “Jason Samuels Day” from the City of Shreveport, Louisiana; the “Ivy of Education” from Brainerd Institute; and the “President Kenny Award” from Stony Brook. He was also the recipient of an Arts International Grant and an Alpert McDowell Fellowship Award and most recently received the 2007 Gregory Hines Humanitarian Award.
 

Enhanced Classical Tap - Diane 'Lady Di' Walker DIANNE "LADY DI" WALKER is a 2nd Generation Silver Belle and one of a handful of internationally acclaimed women in the field of tap dance. Over the course of her career, she has been honored with numerous awards including several for lifetime achievements in Dance. She has performed with tap masters Gregory Hines, Steve Condos, Jimmy Slyde and her mentor, Leon Collins to name a few. Performances include the Tony award- winning "Black and Blue" in New York and in Paris, and as the assistant choreographer/dance captain, she helped to remount the show prior to the new European and American tours. As a soloist, she performs constantly in clubs, jazz festivals and tap festivals across the U.S. and abroad. Dianne's film credits include the movie "Tap", the PBS special "Great Performances: Tap Dance in America,” the PBS production of BLACK AND BLUE directed by Robert Altman; PBS Great Performances- ”Tap Dance in America”; Documentary, “Honi Coles, The Class Act of Tap”; Documentary, “Songs Unwritten...Leon Collins” and as the principal commentator in the PBS release, (WTTW-Chicago) “JUBA”.

Broadway Tap -Karen Callaway Williams Broadway Tap is this lady's forte'! A Second Generation Silver Belle, can be seen in the current documentary BEEN RICH ALL MY LIFE, the story of the Silver Belles. Known for being the first female tap dancer in the international phenomenon RIVERDANCE-THE SHOW and then the only female tap dancer and dance captain in RIVERDANCE on Broadway, Karen currently tours nationally and internationally with the show.
 
Tap Workshop -The Philly Shim Sham Shimmey- Corinne Karon "Every Dancer Should Know the Shim Sham Shimmey! " a LaVaughn Robinson quote. Corinne Karon teaches this National Anthem of Tap Dance created by Leonard Reed and enhanced with the Philly touch. There are so many versatile ways to do the Shim Sham. Philly Tap Challenge aims for everyone to know the Traditional and Philly Shim Sham. Come and Get your Shim Sham on! Then Dance it at the Evenings Performance!
 

Tap Workshop - Chloe Arnold Chloe Arnold (Dancer/Actress/Director/Choreographer) was recently featured in Beyonce’s music video “Upgrade You”, the new hit show Imagine Tap, Outkast’s new movie Idlewild, Sean Paul’s music video for the movie Step Up and at Sadlers Wells, London & City Center, NYC in Jason Samuels Smith’s ACGI. Currently co-director of the Los Angeles Tap Festival, Chloe was Associate Choreographer for ABC’s American Celebration, Debbie Allen’s Pearl in Los Angeles, and is choreographer for her group Syncopated Ladies.
Performance credits include Debbie Allen’s Brothers of the Knight, Soul Possesed, Sammy (the life and times of Sammy Davis Jr.), Savion Glover’s All Star Tap Revue, and The Oneness Awards honoring Michael Jackson.

 

Tap Workshop - Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards As a master instructor, Dormeshia has taught for years on the International Tap Festival circuit including the New York City Tap Festival, the Los Angeles Tap Festival, the Campinas Tap Festival in Brazil, Columbus Taps, and for K-Broadway in Tokyo, Japan. She has also participated in workshops for Dance Masters and for the school system including Wadleigh in NYC, in New Jersey and Long Island. Since January 2005, Dormeshia was elected to the Advisory Board as the Tap Advisor for Dance Magazine. She was also the official Tap Spokesperson for Capezio along with her family and featured in their international advertising campaign.

As co-founder/owner of The Harlem Tap Studio (www.harlemtap.com), Dormeshia offers special Tap Programming in New York City year round.


 

Dance Workshop - Dennis Danehy -Original Campbellock technique Speaker, Panelist, Performer, Master Class Teacher, and Judge at Premier Venues that cater to the HipHop Dance Community. Dennis travels the World, teaching master classes on and promotes his father's legacy in dance “The Campbellock” aka “Locking”. Dennis also manages "Boogaloo Sam" Solomon-The Creator of Popping and Boogalooing.

In Nov. 2004, Dennis took to the stage to dance with His Father, for the first time in 25 yrs. Dennis starred as a Featured Performer in “Rennie Harris Presents the Legends of HipHop” dance revue, which toured LA (The RedCat Theatre) and NY/Broadway (The New Victory Theatre).

His father, Mr. Campbell frequented the dance clubs and perfected his unique dance, “The Campbellock”. In the clubs, Don was untouchable, winning Dance contest after Dance contests with his unique brand of style and flair. Don’s style became even more popular in the early 70’s, when it got more exposure during his appearances as a featured dancer on the popular television show “Soul Train”. Don’s original dance technique has endured the test of time. Today, it is known as “locking”, and its precision movements are used by Choreographers and Street Dancers around the world.
Fred Berry (Dancer/Actor “Rerun” from TV’s What’s Happening), Don’s girlfriend at the time-Toni Basil (Choreographer/Recording Artist), and Adolfo “Shabadoo” Quinones (Dancer/Actor “Ozone” from the films- Breakin’ and Breakin’ 2-Electric Boogaloo) were onetime members of the group. As was Denny Terrio ( Host/Choreographer from TV’s Dance Fever) who would go on to teach John Travolta how to dance for his role in the late 70’s film “Saturday Night Fever”, using moves created by Don some 10 years earlier.


 

Tap Workshop - Hoofing  
This must take Hoofer's class by Timothy Yue. Experience a master class in traditional Philadelphia low fast hoofing, created on the city’s streets in the 1930s. Generate music through the rhythms of your feet. This session will focus on Gregory Hines steps, including video clips from his films.
 

VIVA FLAMENCO! Ana Castellanos  
Viva Flamenco! Instructor, Anne Margaret Castellanos, owner of Flamenco Y Mas International.

Anne Margaret O'Malley Castellanos, Founder and Artistic Director of Flamenco Y Mas International, earned her BFA in Dance at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia. She studied Flamenco and Spanish Dance with Julia Lopez and was an original Company member of Flamenco Ole. She toured Spain with the Ballet des Jeunes under the Direction of Ursula Melita and over the past 15 years has performed with Philadelphia Civic Ballet Company, Camerata Opera Theatre, Latin Fiesta, Center in the Park Tappers and The Philadelphia Orchestra. She founded Flamenco Y Mas Company and School of Dance in Dublin, Ireland in 1999 and has since been featured on Irish National television, Many International Arts Festivals based in Ireland and had the honor of performing for Former President Mary Robinson as well as choreographing works for their Annual St. Patrick's Day Festival and Parade. Now back in the States Ana is running her company on both sides of the Atlantic, performing a one woman show: Flamenco for the young at Heart and is preparing a Tour of Ireland June 2005 with the Ballet des Jeunes under the direction of Donna Tambussi. interpretation of this wonderful music and dance called "Salsa/Mambo" though
the use of the diversely talented dancers that make up my dance group called
Latin Nation. Here is where my dream begins and the journey continues. I
invite you to join me and Latin Nation in one of life's most wonderful

Kids Tap (beginner) and Tap turns taught by Pamela Hetherington, a member of Tap Team II & Co. and festival committee member. Her support of all things tap stem from her childhood love of tap and dance. Pam has continued this love affair and has been teaching and performing most of her life.
 
Tap Workshop - Ali Bradley Not to be Missed!!! Ali Bradley, implanted from Flint, MI has opened her tap studio SoundNMovement in the heart of Strawberry Mansion area in North Philly.
